Stages of Pregnancy and Gynecologist Visit Schedule
Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters, each with its own specific requirements and monitoring needs. Regular gynecological visits help detect potential risks early and support the proper development of your baby and the health of the mother.
First Trimester (Weeks 1–12)
This is the most critical stage, as the baby’s main organs are forming. Key steps include:
Confirming pregnancy and creating a pregnancy record card (Zalożenie karty ciąży)
Performing initial tests: complete blood count, urine analysis, infection screening, hormone profile
First ultrasound to determine gestational age and exclude ectopic pregnancy
Receiving guidance on nutrition, lifestyle, and vitamins
Visit Recommendations:
The first gynecologist visit should be scheduled immediately after confirming pregnancy, with follow-ups every 4 weeks.
Second Trimester (Weeks 13–26)
During this period, the fetus grows and develops rapidly. Focus is placed on monitoring the health of both mother and baby:
Repeat blood and urine tests
Second ultrasound (usually between 18–22 weeks) to assess fetal development and detect possible anomalies
Monitoring blood pressure and weight gain
Discussing birth plans and additional tests if needed
Visit Recommendations:
Gynecologist visits are usually scheduled every 4 weeks, with increased frequency if complications arise.
Third Trimester (Weeks 27–40)
Preparation for childbirth and the final stage of pregnancy:
Frequent check-ups to monitor fetal position and uterine health
Repeat tests to detect anemia, infections, or other conditions
Discussing signs of labor and birth planning
Additional ultrasounds if necessary to assess fetal well-being
Visit Recommendations:
From week 28, visits are generally every 2 weeks, and from week 36 onward, weekly appointments are recommended.
